It was built in Song dynasty, destroyed in Yuan dynasty, and had been rebuilt in 1989. The pavilion was named as its name after the story of Zhang Qian becomming immortal on a raft. Ancient intellectuals and poets came to this pavilion to view the sea. The great poet of Song dynasty, Su Dongpo, had been here and made the poem, Rafting Pavilion, which made this pavilion being well-known in Jianghuai area
